One of the things I feel very strongly about is that kids with limited mobility should be required to do as much as possible for themselves. This past week, I was trying to figure out how I could enable Lily to clear her own place at the table when I remembered a microwave cart we used to use for the medical supplies in her room. I grabbed the cart and did a little experiment.
It worked *nearly* perfectly. She needs a little help getting the cart over uneven surfaces (like the squishy mats we have in front of the sink), and I sometimes need to prompt her to walk around the cart first and THEN grab the plate to put it in the sink. But…she is doing it! So exciting!
What hacks have you used to get your kids involved in chores?
